Introducing 2017 NC International Science Challenge Student Dory Li
Dory Li is a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM). Conducting research in biomedical engineering has advanced her longstanding interests in STEM and further strengthened her commitment to improving human health. This past summer, Dory worked at NC State University to develop and evaluate a novel drug carrier for the treatment of diseases like cancer. She also spent a month conducting research at Denmark’s Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center. For her work, she was named 1 of 300 Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholars nationwide. Recently, Dory presented her research as a featured speaker to an audience of 1,000 pharmaceutical and business executives in the 2017 Council for Entrepreneurial Development Life Sciences Conference.
Dory also leads a nonprofit organization working against educational inequality. She is an avid clarinetist and enjoys ice skating, traveling, and learning languages. An Editor-in-Chief of NCSSM’s student-produced research journal, Dory loves helping her peers showcase their own scientific work. She aims to pursue an interdisciplinary field like public health that applies STEM to address real-world social issues.
