Megan: Forbidden City

Our first full day in Beijing started off with a visit to the US Embassy and then a visit to the Forbidden City. I was so excited to see all the history and walk in a city that dated back to Imperial China! The city definitely did not disappoint and I was wowed by the immense size of the city. It seemed to just stretch on forever, and all of it was built for only one emperor!! Nancy, Joan and Leo telling us stories about the city and the time period made the visit even more special.

This is one of a pair of lions that were common in the city and the style of the time period. The female lion, seen in the picture, always has a baby underneath her paw, and the male lion opposite her always has a ball under his paw.
