Alec: No Expense Spared
The opening ceremony of BYSCC was today. It seemed like a much more serious affair than comparable events in the United States. There was a fancy no-expense-spared stage with high quality lighting. Having done theatre tech for all four years of high school, it was easy to recognize how fancy the entire setup was.
There were a lot of untranslated speeches, and some videos and even a skit. Though I didn’t actually understand most of it there was a lot of upbeat music. Today was also the first day of project presentation – to judges and others associated with the BYSCC. There was a group of students from Boston Latin observing the competition to potentially send their own delegation starting next year, and we talked to them about their school’s STEM initiative. Once we got back to the hotel, we had a banquet with Chinese officials who once again welcomed us to the BYSCC.
