Holly: Thoughts from The Great Wall
I can’t believe I finally get to cross off “climbing the Great Wall” off my bucket list. Hard to believe I was just on one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The climb up was hard. Real hard. Each step unique, distinct, and of course steep. If we stood still we’d be leaning on an angle. But you’d just have to look around you to know immediately that it was all worth it. The view was magnificent.
Our first taste of the history of China did not disappoint and looking out into the great expanse that was the Great Wall, I couldn’t help but catch my breath (though that might also because I was exhausted from climbing).
The hike back down was easy, almost unbelievably easy. But a well-needed contrast from the climb up. The Great Wall is one of those unique places where both the journey and the destination were equally as amazing.
