Oakhurst STEAM Academy Principal Dr. Tisha Greene Honored for Work in STEM Education
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Dr. Tisha Greene, principal of the Oakhurst STEAM Academy has received the 2017 Outstanding Administrator Award from the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMT) Center. Ms. Greene was recognized on April 29 in Raleigh, N.C. at the annual SMT Celebration.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions by an administrator in advancing STEM education in North Carolina.
“Dr.. Greene’s dedication to her students and her vision for STEM education goes above and beyond,” said Dr. Sam Houston, CEO and president of the SMT Center. “We’re proud to recognize her accomplishments.”
Dr. Greene is a National Board Certified Teacher. In 2009 she became a principal in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. When the Oakhurst STEAM Academy opened for the 2015-16 school year, Dr. Greene worked to integrate STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) and initiatives into the students’ entire school day and extracurricular activities. She also aligned professional development opportunities to ensure that her staff received training to implement the program.
Dr. Greene received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. In 2014, she received her Ed.D. from Wingate University.

Science, Mathematics, and Technology (SMT) Center is focused on improving education as a means of providing all students in North Carolina with the knowledge and skills to have successful careers, be good citizens, and advance the economy of the state.
